Crisis Demands Action—Not Excuses: Why Canada Must Build Faster
Read what I had to say on the Liberal's proposed two-year approval timeline:
Hey PM Carney and Minister Hodgson: when you say you’ll use all federal powers to accelerate major projects to take on the U.S., look at what the Americans already do. They approve major energy projects (such as oil, gas, critical minerals, and uranium) on federal lands in as few as TWENTY-EIGHT days.
You now promise a two-year timeline, which Conservatives proposed three years ago to compete with the U.S. under Biden.
In our common sense plan in the election, Conservatives proposed a one year max wait time for approvals with a target of 6 months for projects of national importance that upholds the duty to consult and actually gets projects built. You're both new to the House of Commons, but you should get with the times if you really want to make Canada truly self-reliant and competitive with the U.S.
PM Carney, you also say you need "consensus" for pipelines, but the consensus already exists. A strong majority of Canadians support responsible energy development, and a majority of Quebecers support pipelines.
You say, “We are in a once-in-a-lifetime crisis.” If that’s true, why settle for a two-year delay? In a real crisis, leadership demands urgency—not excuses. Two years is too long.
The last lost, anti-development Liberal decade has made Canada dependent and vulnerable to the U.S. Your proposal will continue to hold Canada back and keep resources in the ground.
Conservatives want Canada to compete and to achieve true economic and energy security. That means:
• One-year review caps and 6 month one-and-done targets
• Shovel-ready economic zones
• Scrap the cap on Canadian oil and gas
• Repeal the No New Pipelines, Never Build Anything Anywhere Bill C-69
• Repeal the West Coast Shipping Ban, Bill C-48
• Axe the federal industrial carbon tax
• Remove unrealistic, divisive, and punitive electricity regulations
Canadians everywhere need affordable, reliable power and fuel. Canada must be self-reliant and achieve real economic independence from the U.S.
Whatever happened to "elbows up"?!
