Justin Trudeau’s Job-Killing Carbon Scheme
Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Ed Fast, Conservative Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change, and Shannon Stubbs, Shadow Minister for Natural Resources, today released the following statement regarding Justin Trudeau’s fuel standard regulations:
“Today, Justin Trudeau’s Liberals announced one more element of their job-killing carbon scheme. Their new fuel regulations will force industry to pay $230 dollars for every tonne of emissions reduced, dramatically increasing operating costs and putting Canada at an even further competitive disadvantage. These fuel regulations are in addition to the job-killing carbon tax.
“Like his carbon tax, his shipping ban, and the No-More-Pipelines Bill C-69, their new fuel regulations are part of Justin Trudeau’s plan to phase out Canada’s energy sector.
“However, the Liberals’ fuel standard regulations will harm more than just industry. This job-killing scheme is unprecedented anywhere in the world as it applies to all fuel types, including fuel used for manufacturing and home heating. That means it will raise the cost of everything from groceries to putting gas in the car.
“For wealthy Liberals like Justin Trudeau, paying more at the pump is not a big deal, but it will have a real impact on hardworking families in Canada.
“Justin Trudeau’s job-killing carbon scheme will chase away investment, increase the cost to do business, and have a devastating effect on our economy. It will kill jobs as the cost of making and transporting everything in Canada will increase, from manufacturing jobs in big cities, to agriculture, forestry and mining jobs in rural communities.
“Job creators are already acting on Justin Trudeau’s anti-business agenda. Foreign investment has dropped to half of what it was in 2015, reaching levels not seen since 2010 when Canada was dealing with a major recession.
“Just as we always have, Canada’s Conservatives will continue to fight against Justin Trudeau’s job-killing carbon scheme.”
