Liberals Dont Want Change
Conservatives have always fought to fast track nation building resource and infrastructure opportunities for Canada's economy, security and sovereignty. The Liberals brought in C-5 to work around their OWN last decade of gatekeeping, road blocking anti-develooment laws and red tape. But how does a bill with no timelines, vague criteria, and ad hoc decisions give certainty to builders? Conservatives sought to give certainty to the private sector in C-5. But the real solution is to fix all the laws and policies that C-5 gives the government the power to sideline.
Nation-building projects and private sector proponents need competitiveness, certainty, and clarity. But before our Conservative team helped fix Bill C-5 with a dozen amendments, watch this exchange where Minister Freeland admits there really is no certainty in C-5 because it will all be up to Cabinet Ministers, and half of them are still the same old anti-development, anti-energy ones, who had been advised by PM Carney for half a decade, as before.
The real solution: 1) fix all the bills and regs that C-5 queue jumps, because C-5 is an admission those regs and agencies stop building. Fix them to be efficient, purpose built, and effective but not onerous and tools of death by delay... and 2) start with fast tracking and green lighting all the natural resources and major infrastructure projects that are CURRENTLY in federal assessment - ASAP!
The countdown is on, and still no one actually knows which projects will make the cut, how, why or when, and which ones will be left stuck in a broken, gatekeeping system where they are right now, losing time, money, and opportunity - which the passage of C 5 outright admits.
