Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month

Let’s stand shoulder to shoulder with the fathers, sons, brothers, uncles, providers, and friends who face mental health challenges across Canada. Men’s mental health matters to all of us and every person can make a difference when we listen without judgment, step up to offer help, and show that no man stands alone.

As an MP and as a woman, the way men are treated in modern society, attacked with the poisonous concept of “toxic masculinity” and lose hope for their futures, concerns me deeply. Suicide rates are 3 times higher among men. And the reality is that men living in rural areas are 70% more likely to die by suicide. That’s completely unacceptable to me. These losses leave deep holes in the hearts, lives and livelihoods of countless women, mothers, partners, sisters, daughters, businesses, families, and entire communities across Lakeland and Canada. That’s why we all should, and I always will, speak up for and stand with men who are unseen, unheard, and who feel alone and under attack -- because their wellness and their lives matter too.
