Shannon Stubbs receives 'Best Represents Constituents' Maclean's Parliamentarian of the Year award.

Shannon Stubbs, the Member of Parliament for Lakeland, and Conservative Official Opposition Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, commented on receiving the 'Best Represents Constituents' Maclean's Parliamentarian of the Year award.

TWO HILLS, AB– For the second time since being elected as the Member of Parliament for Lakeland in 2015, Shannon Stubbs received the Maclean’s Parliamentarian of the Year Award on January 12, 2021. Shannon was a previous recipient in the same category as the best constituent representative in 2017.

“What ultimately matters most to me is what the people of Lakeland think and whether I am earning my keep for them. I am relentlessly driven by the people who sent me here to fight for them, to make sure they’re heard, to speak truth to power, and to help make an impact for them. The people of Lakeland have given me an extraordinarily strong mandate – in fact, in 2019, it was the highest for a woman candidate in any constituency, ever, in Canadian history. With that comes an equally immense responsibility, so I want to deliver on their expectations,” Stubbs said. “And it’s my duty - because people, families, businesses, and communities in Lakeland have given so much to Canada for generations, and they’re struggling in real time. They are rightfully frustrated, angry, and worried about their futures, through no fault of their own.”

“The people of Lakeland are resilient, tenacious, and no-nonsense. They want action - especially from me. They inspire me. I’m so proud to represent them, and I’m so proud of where I come from. I’m fortunate to work with a team who understands the most important responsibility for all of us is to represent and assist the people of Lakeland.

That’s my top priority, so thank you to everyone who has a crucial role in making sure that happens!”

“Other politicians and pundits might have an opinion of me - but what I really care about most is the people of Lakeland. If colleagues have decided that what I do and how I do it means I’m the MP that best represents my constituents, the truth is nothing matters more to me. I will keep at it, and continue working hard for Lakeland!”

The Maclean’s Parliamentarian of the Year Award is an annual award that is based on nominations and votes from Members of Parliament of all parties in the House of Commons, and acknowledges MPs in a variety of categories.
