Update for Concerned Constituents
MP Stubbs has been on approved unavoidable medical leave. She is in the early stages of recovery from major jaw and chin surgery at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton to correct significant medical conditions.
MP Stubbs was born severely premature at 6½ months gestation and weighed only 2 pounds. Like most neo natal NICU babies, her heart, lungs, and jaw were underdeveloped, and she underwent immediate heart surgery. The jaw issue was identified, but was never surgically corrected. Over the years, doctors alerted Shannon to the impacts on her heart, breathing, and overall health. Both parents died early due to heart issues.
MP Stubbs is under orders of strict bedrest, no speaking - with a splint and jaw wired shut, eating only liquids through syringes. Her jaw and chin are currently broken in three places. The surgical team requires limited movement and no travel for a minimum of 8 weeks.
She cannot use any apps that require facial recognition, like the remote voting app, due to her altered appearance (think Moai statues on Easter Island!) Proxy or phone or mail in ballot votes are not permitted.
The surgery was originally scheduled for last spring, but MP Stubbs postponed it when the election was called. Afterwards, the trio of medical offices involved in the years-long preparations warned against any further delays. There were only 2 surgical options in the following 9 month period, with waiting lists - take it or leave it. The surgery and multiple preparation appointments were scheduled and well underway before the budget dates and votes were set, which changed and shifted multiple times through the summer and fall.
Any videos posted on MP Stubbs' social media were pre-recorded before she left for surgery because she wanted to continue to be able to speak out about ongoing issues that impact her constituents. MP Stubbs has always been a straight shooting, principled, and unflinching advocate for Lakeland. Obviously, MP Stubbs strongly opposes Carney's credit card budget and every part of this government’s top down neo marxist anti development agenda at every step.
Ultimately, the reality is that her vote did not alter the outcome of the budget vote. Otherwise, as anyone who knows her can attest, she would defy doctor’s advice (like when she postponed for the election!), used the emergency scissors her doctor provided, and ended this destructive government’s term with pleasure.
Her constituency office in Two Hills remains fully open to serve the people of Lakeland, as they have always done.
MP Stubbs thanks everyone for their ongoing support, patience, and understanding. She remains deeply grateful to all the medical professionals and hospital staff for their care and professionalism.
